Analysis of a Stirling engine in a waste heat recovery system with internal combustion engine

This work aims to study a Stirling engine (SE) used recover the heat content of exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine. The attention has been focused on transfer between and working inside heater. Experimental tests have performed two-cylinder gamma-type coupled compression ignition using thermally insulated pipe cap. A mechanical power 0.275 kW at 900 rpm SE rotational speed was obtained with efficiency 11.7%. To investigate how gas-heater interaction affects efficiency, 3D model developed by authors. cap-heater system studied as shell-and-tubes exchanger. values temperature velocity set boundary conditions for cap, while heater, pressure predicted 1D adiabatic adjusted geometry. results showed that distribution is not uniform in both cylinders, involving pistons do same way. Therefore, improve proper configuration SE-CI coupling should be designed.
